International Registration Award

Award Info

Description

Applying and receiving a registration award will not impact future travel award applications. You may apply if you received a travel award in the past. If you receive a registration award, you may apply for a travel award in the future.

About the Award

For many international researchers, the location of the SPSP annual meeting often puts attendance out of reach. While this is not the case for the 2021 meeting for those with access to high-speed Internet, the cumulative impact of the effect of travel costs continues. This award is an effort to offset this impact. Award selection criteria therefore focus primarily on applicants’ contribution to enhancing international diversity and representation, taking into account the countries and world regions currently represented in personality and social psychology (e.g., among authors of publications, and attendees at the meeting in the previous 5 years).

SPSP hosts an International reception at the conference (time and location, an on-line “room” for 2021, to be announced). Award winners are invited to attend the reception, where they will have the opportunity to meet with each other, members of the international committee, and other SPSP members interested in international research.

Selection Process

Selection of awardees will be carried out by members of the SPSP International Committee. Applicants will be ranked based on a combination of two factors:

1. Overall merit of the application (including the essay, vita, and if presenting at the conference, the presentation abstract).

2. Contribution to enhancing international representation at the SPSP conference, based on:

  • The applicant coming from a region that is under-represented at the conference, and/or
  • The applicant coming from a region that is under-represented as authors in SPSP publications, and/or
  • The research to be presented employs participants from internationally under-represented populations.

Eligibility

Non-members are eligible to apply but must be members to accept the award. Applicants from under-represented regions may be eligible for dues exemption. Please contact membership@spsp.org for additional information about a hardship dues exemption.

Applicants must reside outside of the U.S.A. and Canada during most of the year just preceding the 2021 annual meeting. Country of residence will normally be based on the location of the applicants’ institution. Although students and teacher/scholars from any world regions are eligible to apply, applications from under-represented regions will be given additional weight in the evaluation process. Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.

Considering that the 2021 conference is all on-line and therefore the travel awards have been converted to registration awards, receiving a registration award will not disqualify individuals from receiving a travel award in a future year. If applicants are selected for more than one registration award in 2021, they must choose one award and decline the other(s).
